When Spirits Crash the Party: My Supernatural New Year Kickoff

There’s nothing quite like a calm, cozy night to welcome the New Year… unless, of course, your tranquil sanctuary decides to moonlight as a supernatural disco—fashionably early. As someone who works with Spirit daily, I’ve come to expect their unique ways of communicating, and I like to think I handle it without freaking out. But let’s be real—when the spooky stuff happens in your own space, it’s a whole different story.

Last night, as I prepared for bed, my ever-faithful feline sidekick, Echo, decided to throw me a curveball. Normally, Echo is my ride-or-die, always curling up on the bed like the King of the castle. But not this time. Nope. He sat outside the bedroom door, looking at me like I’d invited a poltergeist to the party.

What’s wrong, Echo? Come on in.

His response? A solid “nope, I’ll sleep in the other bedroom tonight“, in cat language.

Great. Now, I’m lying in bed wondering what invisible specter my cat sees that I can’t. Thanks, Echo.

Fast forward to 3 AM—the so-called “witching hour,” when spirits supposedly get the most active. I’m jolted awake by the sound of Jonas Blue’s “Perfect Strangers” blasting from my phone speakers. Now, I don’t remember setting an alarm for a midnight dance party, and I definitely don’t recall asking spirits to DJ.

If that wasn’t enough, my bedside LED lamp decided to join the fun, flashing green like it was trying to summon the spirit of John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever. For a brief, surreal moment, my peaceful bedroom became the hottest (and spookiest) nightclub in town.
While I’m sitting up, heart racing, trying to figure out what just happened, Echo still in the other room ignoring the choas.

Now, I’m not one to let a ghostly jam session ruin my night. Once my heart rate returned to normal, I couldn’t help but laugh. If the spirits wanted to get my attention, mission accomplished. Between Jonas Blue and the flashing LED, it felt like they were saying, “Hey, life’s short! Celebration starts early!”

If there is a message to take us into the New Year, this may be it.

1. Presence Over Certainty
“Who knows the secret tomorrow will hold? We don’t really need to know, ’cause you’re here with me now.”
This could signify the importance of staying grounded in the present moment. Spirit might be reminding you not to get lost in uncertainties about the future but to focus on the here and now, appreciating the connections and experiences unfolding in the present.

2. Embracing Mystery
“Maybe we’re perfect strangers. Maybe it’s not forever.”
The concept of “perfect strangers” suggests an acceptance of the unknown and the impermanence of certain encounters. Spirit might be highlighting the beauty of temporary connections and experiences, even if they seem fleeting or inexplicable. It’s a reminder to embrace mystery without needing to have all the answers.

3. Human Imperfection and Connection
“We’re only human, maybe we don’t need no reason why.”
This line speaks to the idea that not everything in life—or in Spirit—needs a logical explanation. It might be Spirit’s playful way of encouraging you to let go of overanalyzing and simply trust the flow of life and its interconnectedness, even when it feels random or chaotic.

4. The Power of Shared Energy
“No one but you got me feeling this way. There’s so much we can’t explain.”
This could symbolize the unique connection between you and Spirit. It acknowledges the emotional or energetic resonance that certain moments or signs evoke, even if the reasons behind them are beyond explanation. It’s about feeling rather than understanding.

5. Inviting Joy and Spontaneity
“Come on, come on, come over.”
This repeated phrase feels like an invitation. Spirit may be encouraging you to welcome spontaneity, joy, and perhaps even a bit of playful chaos into your life. It’s a nudge to “come over” to the lighter, celebratory side of existence and embrace the unexpected as part of the journey.

6. Celebrating Impermanence
“Maybe the night will change us, maybe we’ll stay together, maybe we’ll walk away.”
This reflects the transient nature of experiences and relationships. Spirit might be reminding you that change is inevitable, and each moment has its purpose—whether it’s to teach, transform, or simply to be enjoyed before it passes.

7. Reassurance of Connection
“You’re here with me now, I don’t want you to go.”
This line could be Spirit’s way of reassuring you that you are never truly alone. Even in moments of doubt or uncertainty, the presence of Spirit is constant and comforting.

Lyrics to Perfect Strangers, by Jonas Blues
You were looking at me like you wanted to stay
When I saw you yesterday
I’m not wasting your time, I’m not playing no games
I see you
Who knows the secret tomorrow will hold?
We don’t really need to know
‘Cause you’re here with me now, I don’t want you to go
You’re here with me now, I don’t want you to go
Maybe we’re perfect strangers
Maybe it’s not forever
Maybe the night will change us
Maybe we’ll stay together
Maybe we’ll walk away
Maybe we’ll realize
We’re only human
Maybe we don’t need no reason
Maybe we’re perfect strangers
Maybe it’s not forever
Maybe the night will change us
Maybe we’ll stay together
Maybe we’ll walk away
Maybe we’ll realize
We’re only human
Maybe we don’t need no reason why
Come on, come on, come over
Maybe we don’t need no reason why
Come on, come on, come over
No one but you got me feeling this way
There’s so much we can’t explain
Maybe we’re helping each other escape
I’m with you
Who knows the secret tomorrow will hold?
We don’t really need to know
‘Cause you’re here with me now, I don’t want you to go
You’re here with me now, I don’t want you to go
Maybe we’re perfect strangers
Maybe it’s not forever
Maybe the night will change us
Maybe we’ll stay together
Maybe we’ll walk away
Maybe we’ll realize
We’re only human
Maybe we don’t need no reason
Maybe we’re perfect strangers
Maybe it’s not forever
Maybe the night will change us
Maybe we’ll stay together
Maybe we’ll walk away
Maybe we’ll realize
We’re only human
Maybe we don’t need no reason why
Come on, come on, come over
Maybe we don’t need no reason why
Come on, come on, come over
Come on, come on, come over
Maybe we don’t need no reason why
Come on, come on, come over
